ANTIQUE SHIP OR YACHT LOG
Antique ship or yacht log by Massey.
A mid to late 19th century brass mechanical ships log.
The tail section has multiple fins and rotates when in the water to record the distance travelled in nautical miles, there is a fixed stabilising wing that prevents the log itself from spinning. The distance is recorded on the logs porceain dial, there is three dials - one reads 100 miles, the next dial records tenths of a mile and the last dial is divisions of one nautical mile. There is a rotating brass cover to protect the dials when in use.
The dial plate is marked MASSEY'S ANCHOR SHIP LOG, No.1, E.M.P.
ANTIQUE SHIP OR YACHT LOG
A mid 19th Century patent yacht or ship log by Massey.
The log is contained with its original storage box and complete with original trade label and manufacturers information labels.
The log is engraved EDW'd MASSEY'S New LLL Patent YACHT LOG 14176 and the original red coloured lettering infill is present.
The box measures 17 x 4.5 x 4.25 inches

ANTIQUE DEPTH SOUNDING LOG
A very rare early to mid 19th Century, boxed deep sea sounding machine by Edward Massey.
This early depth sounding log is contained in its original wooden box and is complete with instruction sheet.
The instrument is hand engraved Edw'd Massey, LLL Patentee, London, 6338. With the couloured lettering infill present.
This is a top qualtiy instrument and it still has its original gold lacquer present.
Box dimensions: H =10 inches, W = 8 inches, D = 5 inches.

Antique Walker Harpoon A1 ship log
The dial plate is marked: WALKER'S, PATENT, HARPOON, SHIP LOG, A1, LONDON.
The Harpoon A1 ships log was patented in 1861 and continued to be produced until 1951. The serial number on this example dates it to around 1880.

A presentation mounted Thomas Walker Cherub Mk2 ships log.The Cherub Mk2 model was produced from 1907 to 1930. The serial number on the example dates it to around 1910

Brass log dial and propeller mounted onto oak display board. Porcelain face and dial marked NEGUS PATENT LOG.
Outer dial reads 100 nautical miles and small inset dial reads 10 nautical miles.
Length of oak base 48cm / 19 inches.

Antique yacht log by Thomas Walker, EXCELSIOR mk IV outrigger pattern model.
Log dial, taffrail mounting bracket, log line and rotator (propeller) contained in the original fitted box.
The Thomas Walker EXCELSIOR IV yacht log was manufactured from 1936, it was designed for use in yachts, motor boats and small fishing vessels

Sling pattern log dial, log line and rotator (propeller) contained in the original fitted box.
The Thomas Walker EXCELSIOR IV electric log was manufactured from 1937, the Walker advert stated it was designed for powered craft, ocean going yachts, small coastal steamers and high speed motor cruisers.

Sling pattern log dial, log line, 2 x rotators (propellers), oil can, spare glass lens and spare sinker contained in the original fitted box which is complete with original instruction labels.

Antique ship's log. Brass body with porcelain dial marked THE TRIDENT, TAFFRAIL LOG, PATENTED. The outer dial registers up to 100 nautical miles and inset dial registers quarter of a nautical mile. Mounted on a hardwood base for display.
Diameter 13.5 cm / 5.25 inches.
We have never seen this model before and it is not to be confused with the Walker trident ship's log.
